Joe Root will feature in an ODI match for the first time since the 2023 World Cup. The former captain will bat at No. 3 for England in the series opener in Nagpur on Thursday.

The T20I assignment is done and dusted and had a relevance in itself but the upcoming ODI series can't be looked at in isolation, with an ICC event breathing down its neck. Hence, both India and England would be looking to fine-tune their preparations in these three matches,

The England cricket team has announced its Playing XI for the first match of the three-match ODI series against India. The match will be held at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6.

Joe Root will come to play in the ODI series after a successful stint in South Africa's T20 tournament. Root gathered 279 runs at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 140.

Varun Chakravarthy picked up 14 wickets in the five-match T20I series against England, including a five-wicket haul in Rajkot. He was also the player of the series for his stellar bowling performance.
