The UK government has announced a ban on the sale and supply of single-use vapes, effective from June 1st next year. The legislation was introduced in Parliament, giving businesses time to sell off existing stock before the ban begins.

Businesses will have until the deadline "to sell any remaining stock they hold and prepare for the ban coming into force."

Until that point, disposable vapes can still legally be sold. In the UK, the legal age for buying vaping products is set at 18. This regulation applies to all e-cigarettes and vape devices, including disposable vapes and refillable kits. It is both illegal to sell vapes to anyone under 18 and for adults to buy them for anyone under 18.

The sale of single-use vapes will be banned in England from June next year, the British government said on Thursday, seeking to crack down on the environmental harm and rising usage levels among children.

The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) estimates almost five million single-use vapes were either littered or thrown away every week last year. Vape use in the UK is estimated to have grown by 400% between 2012 and 2023, and around 9.1% of the population is now believed to buy and use them.
