A snow emergency has been declared in Montgomery County for Monday, Jan. 6, as a winter storm is expected to hit the region. According to weather forecasts, most of the DC metro area is expected to see 8 to 10 inches of snow.

Five Rivers MetroParks announced that it will close several parks at 4 p.m. on Sunday as a winter storm moves the area. MetroParks staff posted the winter weather alert on their social media page Sunday morning. There are a few exceptions to the closure.

Blue Collar Scholars in Montgomery County handles snow removal for about 100 homes and businesses. On Friday, owner Sam Forline said he and his crews are gearing up for a winter storm system that could bring several inches of snow and ice to the area.

Springfield and Mt. Zion are each declaring snow emergencies ahead of Sunday’s winter storm. On Saturday, the City of Springfield’s Office of Public Works declared a snow emergency for designated snow routes starting at 11 p.
