This isn’t the first laser engraver we’ve seen built out of scrap parts, though if you want to save some work you could just upgrade a cheap commercial model.
Right now, you can get a diode laser engraver on eBay for around $100 USD ... a concise assembly guide that’s built from 3D printed parts and readily available components.
