Temperatures are set to drop sharply, with lows of minus 16C possible in Scotland and northern England overnight on Thursday.
It comes after forecasters said sleet, rain, snow and ice would sweep large parts of the country on Wednesday.
Areas currently affected by yellow alerts for snow and/or ice include the Scottish Highlands, Scotland's west coast and Northern Ireland.
