SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A deadly crash Wednesday night shut down Fruitville Road in Sarasota, authorities said. The crash happened at about 10 p.m. near the intersection of Fruitville Road and North Tuttle Avenue, according to the Sarasota Police Department. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.

The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the fatal two-vehicle collision, which occurred shortly before 10:00 PM Wednesday near the intersection of North Tuttle Avenue and Fruitville Road.

Sarasota police say alcohol and speed were factors in a crash that killed one person and critically injured another.

The crash happened Wednesday at the intersection of Fruitville Road and Tuttle Avenue at 9:51 p.m.  The passenger of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver remains in critical condition.
